He is considered as equal to Messi and soon we might see him overtaking Messi.

Fondly called the “El Classico”, the matches between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in Spain is one of the fiercest clashes between rivals. To understand the importance of these matches, one should understand the history behind both these clubs. It is not simply a clash between two of the biggest clubs in Spain; but to many it is still a clash between the oppressor and the suppressor. FC Barcelona is iconic for every Catalan. Barcelona might be in Spain but the Catalans prefer to be out of the fold. If you ever visit Barcelona you would be surprised to see a higher status to the Catalan language than Spanish. The rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid grew to unimaginable proportion during the era of Dictator Franco. Franco banned the use of Catalan language and hence the matches at Barcelona became the perfect place for Catalans to take their protest to international level. FC Barcelona became true to their identity “More Than A Club” with its progressive ideas. Real Madrid was considered the hot bed of power and was associated with Franco. The rivalry was intensified during the 1950s when the clubs disputed the signing of Alfredo Di Stefano. Di Stefano had impressed both Barcelona and Real Madrid whilst playing for Club Deportivo Los Millonarios in Bogota, during a players’ strike in his native Argentina. Both Madrid and Barcelona attempted to sign him and, due to confusion had emerged due to the di Stefano moving to Millonarios from River Plate due to the strike, as both clubs claimed to own his registration. Subsequently, both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid believed that they had signed him. After intervention from the Spanish FA Barcelona backed down and di Stefano moved to Madrid; rumour remains that Barca were forced to act by Franco, but Madrid maintained that they acted voluntarily. Di Stefano became integral in the subsequent success achieved by the Madrid, scoring twice in his first game against Barcelona. With him, Madrid won the initial five European Champions Cup competitions. The 1960s saw the rivalry reach the European stage when they met twice at the European Cup, Real Madrid winning in 1960 and FC Barcelona winning in 1961. Head on head Real Madrid leads FC Barcelona by 68 to 59. There has been 30 draws in the El Classico till date. The El classico were made fiercer with players defecting from FC Barcelona to Real Madrid. The reception got for Figo when he visited Camp Nou is a prime example. El Classico is a prime business strategy for both these clubs – FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. At the current time, El Classico is nothing more than a marketing strategy for both the team. But still tempers rises with the approach of an El Classico. The Catalan and Madrid based media trumps up the adrenaline every time an El Classico approaches. May be a clash between Pakistan and India could match the match between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. But no rivalry at Club level especially in Europe matches this mega event.

All Hail the Almighty Barcelona Football Club

Nothing gives one as much joy as seeing his team perform successfully progressively in football matches. As a fanatical fan of Barcelona, I feel safe and proud to tell the world that there is now no team like my FC Barcelona, and that our fans are increasing almost on daily basis in Nigeria. The present performance of the Club is also making us proud, and all I want to beg my Boys is not to stop the winning victories they have subjected us until we lift the prestigious La Liga League, Champions League and other championship.

With the rate at which we are advancing I am sure that nothing will pre-empt us from achieving this great feat. Barcelona FC has become the major subject topic in Nigeria, and everyone will agree with us that no football Club in the world today is capable of marching us competitively. We obviously have all it takes now to go ahead and conquer even Chelsea FC, which is lacking in attacking prowess Manchester United, currently facing nose-diving because the one man-show goal abilities coming from Chritiano Ronaldo has come to a halt. Last season we clearly defeated Manchester United but Manchester United won the trophy in the Champions League match played in both Old Trafford and Nou Camp because there was goal drought on our part.

That sometimes happens and anyone can expect this at any particular point in time. I would not comment that it was extremely painful to me because judging from how the match went, we converted every of Manchester United players to defenders only struggling to kick the ball out in a bid to prevent it from getting inside the net. With heavy pressure mounting on Ferguson Boys, it became very clear that only the last sound of the whistle signaling the end of the match would save them, and so it was.

It is very rare finding any football team by whatever name and league mounting pressure on my Barcelona FC, this is one great reason, and I enjoy watching my team play. Because it is so entertaining that you expect goals from this team, we do not bother ourselves much even if we lose in the end as everyone agrees in the end that we deserve to win and not to lose, such is the beauty of football with Barcelona FC.

Press hype from the English media may try their possible best to distortedly twist us to believe that it happens in England, but this is too cheap to believe as we know that Spain is it, the real home of football. There may not be plenty of pounds but there are plenty of actions or how come no player from the English League has ever won the prestigious World Footballer of the year award. Soon, we shall prove to the whole world that we are capable of crushing any opponent that comes our way.

We are hot and we know it, Etoâ€™o, Messi, Xavi, Alves, can do it for us. Who can compare with Messi, a player born with football? Merciless Messi is a one man riot squad who is capable of wrecking any an entire opponent team, and Etoâ€™o with his present form has also demonstrated that he can go on scoring until the Referee blasts his whistle for the end of the match. Such is the glory Barca can bequeath to us the fans. Better begin to consider abandoning hypertension-Arsenal, Fluke-Manchester United, Noisy but empty Chelsea FC and unreliable-Liverpool FC and join us today. We hear never walk alone, the reason Liverpool walk with inconsistencies.

UP Barca! Barca for life!

Spanish La Liga – Barcelona Restores their Six-Point Lead at the Top with Bojan Krkicâ€™s Goals

The current leader of the Spanish League, the FC Barcelona got its victory this past Sunday by beating Almeria in great way 2-0, with goals of the young player Bojan Krkic. The Spaniard footballer got the chance to start the game by his manager Pep Guardiola, who at the same time wanted to give a rest to the start strikers Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry, after the game of the Champions League the past Wednesday where they beat Olympique Lyon 5-2. With this unique opportunity, the young striker took good advantage of it by scoring in two opportunities with the help of the superstar Lionel Messi.

Since the beginning of the game BarÃ§a was controlling the actions as they were passing the ball quickly and making beautiful plays, while Almeria was stuck in their defensive area the majority of the time since Barcelona was attacking constantly. Almeria just got to the rivals area once and wasn’t even close to open the score. For its part, Barcelona got their open opportunity when Argentine Lionel Messi hit the post with a shot and Bojan followed up to score at minute 53. Three minutes later he finished off an excellent play, with Messi’s help once again. With these two goals as visitors, BarÃ§a took 3 more points home and is now six points away of second place Real Madrid.Â

The manager Pep Guardiola was happy with the result but he also expressed that his team is not fully at his best and that they still have some issues in their game that they have to improve in order to achieve their objectives, which are obtaining the titles of La Liga and the Champions League.

“It might have looked easy, but it wasn’t. We controlled the game, but in the first half we were taking too many touches and we were not putting any pace on the ball. In the second half, we played a lot better, but there is nothing simple in football. We tried to get possession of the ball, move it quickly and when you play that way, it is difficult for your rivals,” expressed Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola.

After his testimony about the game, he also stated the well-development of the Spaniard Bojan Krkic, who gave the team the three points with his two goals. For his part, the young striker affirmed he would like to stay for many years in Barcelona but he doesn’t discard a transfer loan in another club.Â The 18-year-old Krkic also said that being in Barcelona has been a great experience and he hopes he will learn more this season and the coming ones in hands of his teammates and his great coach Pep Guardiola. Moreover, Bojan expressed that he was expecting more playing time but he knows there are amazing players in Barcelona and at the end is up to the coach to decide who is going to be in the starting lineup.

The next game of Barcelona in La Liga will be against MÃ¡laga at Camp Nou on March 22nd.Â Â Currently Barcelona is at the top spot with 66 points, followed by Real Madrid with 60 points.

True to his nature Guardiola on arrival to FC Barcelona announced that he will offload Eto, Ronaldinho and Deco. He revived the team such a way that FC Barcelona is once again playing the best football in continent. 2) Xavi – Puyol might be the captain bu Xavi is the Heart of FC Barcelona. FC Barcelona has produced a lot of little midfielders recently but this Barca player is a tough one. Xavi is a product of FC Barcelona’s youth system and has spent all of his footballing life at the Camp Nou since the age of 11. Ironically he replaced Guardiola in his debut match. Xavi is just second to Rexach in terms of overall appearance for Barca. He not only has become the heart of Barca but also the brain of Spanish national side. He was rightly adjudged as the player of the tournament in Euro 2008. Xavi is that kind of player who is good going forward and while defending. Under Guardiola he has improved a lot and has featured regularly in the score sheet. 3) Lionel Messi – If Xavi is the heart of FC Barcelona, Messi is the brain. Without any doubt Messi is the best player in the world at this moment. His playing style and ability have drawn comparisons to football legend Diego Maradona. Indeed, Maradona himself declared Messi his successor. Messi began playing football at a young age and his potential was quickly identified by FC Barcelona. He left Newell’s Old Boys’ youth team in 2000 and moved with his family to Europe, as Barcelona offered treatment for his growth hormone deficiency. Making his debut in the 2004-05 seasons, he broke the La Liga record for the youngest footballer to play a league game, and also the youngest to score a league goal. Messi was hampered by injury last season; even then he managed to overshadow Ronaldo in Manchester United clash. This season he is in tremendous form scoring 33 goals and assisting 14. He also helped Argentina win the Olympic Gold Medal.

The Barcelona football stadium is the 3rd largest football stadium in the World after the stadiums in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Mexico City. Barcelona camp nou has a capacity of 110,000 people and on every match practically every seat is taken -such is the passion for football shared by the Catalan people.

When Kubula arrived, the old Les Corts stadium proved to be too small and it was necessary to find a new site. From when the idea was first thought of until the day it was opened on 24th September 1957, there were difficult moments for the Camp Nou, but the dream eventually became a reality.

The Old Football Ground had been founded back in 1922, and after several extensions, was able to hold 60,000 spectators, a figure that was practically impossible to increase any more. So, on September 19, 1950, FC Barcelonas Board of Directors, presided by AgustÃ Montal Galobart, purchased a plot of land next to the Maternitat, fairly close to the site of the old Les Corts ground.

The issue was left on hold until Francesc MirÃ³-Sans was elected president of FC Barcelona. The new president was particularly insistent that the project for a new stadium should go ahead immediately and one of the first things he did after coming to power was to situate the new site on the land purchased in 1950 and not at the top of the Diagonal. So it was that, on March 28, in front of 60,000 fans, he laid the first stone of the Camp Nou, watched by the president of the Civil Government, Felipe Acedo Colunga, and blessed by the Archbishop of Barcelona, Gregorio Modrego.

The project for the new stadium was entrusted to the architects Francesc Mitjans MirÃ³, MirÃ³-Sans cousin, and Josep Soteras Mauri, under collaboration with Lorenzo GarcÃa BarbÃ³n. However, later the Club handed the construction rights to INGAR SA.

The date for the inauguration of the Estadi was set at September 24, 1957. An organizing committee was formed to plan a special opening ceremony, which was presided by Aleix Buxeres and Nicolau Casaus. On September 21 in the Barcelona Councils Assembly Room, JosÃ© Maria de CossÃo, a member of the Real Academia EspaÃ±ola, read the proclamation that officially opened the celebrations of the inauguration of the new stadium. That September weekend, members of different sections of the Club appeared in a series of international sports meetings at the Les Corts stadium and the Palau Municipal dEsports. Those important events were enough to inspire the renowned poet Josep M. de Sagarra to write a sonnet entitled Blau Grana, and the creation of the FC Barcelona Stadiums hymn with lyrics by Josep Badia to the music of Adolf CabanÃ©.

On that day of the MercÃ¨ festival in 1957, the city was clothed in the colors of the Club. The inauguration began with a solemn mass and the blessing of the stadium by the Archbishop of Barcelona, Gregorio Modrego.

The terraces of the Camp Nou, still not quite complete, were opened to more than 90,000 people, as representatives of all of the football clubs of Catalonia paraded across the field, along with members of the sections of the Club, Barcelona fan clubs and different teams belonging to the Club. The hymn was then sung, followed, at four thirty in the afternoon, by the inaugural match. FC Barcelona played a Polish team from Warsaw. During the break, 1,500 members of the AgrupaciÃ³ Cultural FolklÃ²rica de Barcelona danced an enormous sardana and 10,000 doves were set free. And so began a new era in the history of FC Barcelona.

Spanish Football – Barcelona Placed a Record in La Liga With Their Win Over Deportivo

The current leader and unstoppable Spanish team, FC Barcelona, placed a new record in the history of La Liga by completing 50 points in the standings at halfway of the season. BarÃ§a defeated Deportivo La CoruÃ±a in great way, with a 5-0 final score on Saturday. The scorers for BarÃ§a were Lionel Messi, Samuel Etoâ€™o and Thierry Henry, which together have become a very important part of the Barcelonaâ€™s success this season, having scored among the three of them a total of 41 of the 59 goals that the team has converted in the 19 games played so far in the season.

Barcelona has remained unbeaten since the opening game defeat against Numancia and has been consistent in their performance. Even so, for their coach Pep Guardiola, there are certain things his team can still correct and improve to fully get in their best shape.Â

“There are still things we aren’t doing well. I got a good feeling, but there are always errors that need analyzing and correcting. We’ve managed to take a lot of points, but there are still things we can achieve and there remains a lot of the season. What comforts me is this spirit. The day we lose that, it will lead to defeat,â€ expressed coach Guardiola.

During La Liga Day 19, Lionel Messi scored in great way his 12th goal of the season at minute 21, when with his speed; beat three players from Deportivo and made a great shot in the corner of the right post. Just six minutes later, Henry headed a pass from Daniel Alves scoring his first goal of the game. Afterwards during minute 42â€™ Etoâ€™o was left alone to convert the third goal for Barcelona. After halftime things got worse for Deportivo when Henry scored the fourth goal, his 11th of the season. Finally, with just four minutes left in the game, Aranzubia got a bad tackle on Carles Puyol, resulting in a penalty. Samuel Etoâ€™o converted the penalty and added his 18th goal of the season.Â

With this victory, Barcelona is now 12 points ahead of Real Madrid and Sevilla, who are in second and third place of La Liga table respectively, with just one goal of difference between them. Behind Sevilla is Valencia with 34 points.

This is one of the best seasons that Barcelona has had, not only in the Spanish League, where they have lost only seven points this season, but also in the Champions League, where theyâ€™re currently in the knockout stage, and the Copa del Rey, where they have passed through the quarterfinals. However, for the players and the coach Pep Guardiola, this season could make history if they win the title, but it will only be a story if they donâ€™t.Â So for them there is no time to stop, they need to continue improving and working hard to achieve their main goal, the Spanish League title.

The next fixture of Barcelona on La Liga will be against Numancia on January 25th at the Nou Camp. Numancia is currently in the 17th place of the table with 20 points and close to the relegation zone. Although it has to be mentioned that prior to this game they will be facing the Espanyol in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinals on January 21st at Estadi OlÃmpic LluÃs Companys in Catalonia.
