Want to learn how to play defensive soccer? There are several techniques in order to have an effective defense for your opponent. Remember that playing soccer is not all about running, striking and aiming for the goal. All of these are useless and will not guarantee your team’s victory if there is no proper and effective defense.
Defensive play is very important especially if you are in situation where you are facing one on one with your opponent.
The very basic technique for defense is to keep distance from your opponent. If you are to close, your opponent can easily get on you and get the ball. As a defender, you must not just go rushing to your opponent. Try to be calm and observe your opponent. Most often, even the best player have their weaknesses and it is your duty to discover their weakness and use it at your advantage.
While on defense, do not concentrate too much on the ball if you have it on your possession. Be very cautious on your opponents’ next move so you will know how to combat whatever their plan. Be quick and responsive in every little movement of your opponent and try to predict their strategy.
The most important thing to remember as a defender is not to underestimate your opponent because you might end up having the surprise in which you are not ready. Assume that your opponents are the best so you will work hard to as a defender. Coordinate with your team and let them know of your plans.
