African World Cup and Tourism

Come June 2010 focus will be on South Africa for the world cup. Much as the games will be in South Africa, the whole of Africa has caught the fever this I should say was largely brought about by the 2010 FIFA trophy that toured 50 African countries. On Saturday 14, November 2009, the enthusiastic president of the Republic of Uganda lifted the cup up just the way any captain of the team/ country who wins the cup would have done.

Later the trophy was taken to Lugogo Cricket oval, which attracted a huge number of football lovers in the country to go see the cup and some lucky fans took souvenir photos with the trophy. This created great excitement and to date much as Uganda did not qualify and the games are going to be held in South Africa, it looks as though Uganda will be holding them, because the fever is on, people are making plans to go watch tournaments and on the streets of Kampala it has become something to talk about.

For the hosts south Africa, the region sees this as a golden opportunity to promote tourism in the region. Tourism authorities of, South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Swaziland and Botswana is not left out are working together on joint strategies in the area of infrastructures as thousands of people are expected to visit the region during the tournament. However, this excitement has caught other countries especially those along the cost. Countries like Tanzania, Kenya and the beautiful island of Zanzibar are also preparing their facilities, getting them ready for the world cup. The eight Southern Africa countries involved in the world cup hope this use the world cup hope to use this time to turn the region into a tourism destination of international recognition.

This life time opportunity of the world cup tour of Africa was made possible by FIFA and other lead sponsors and a long lasting FIFA partner. The trophy is expected to be taken to South Africa the host nation after tour the name African countries.
