If you’re getting ready for a summer of World Cup football from South Africa, then perhaps you’ve already worked out where you’re going to watch each match, and who with. If you’re not sure where you’ll watch the big games or what you need, then here’s what you might want to consider
1. You’ll want somewhere to watch the game. Instead of staying at home, you might want to go to a friend’s house, a local bar, or make an effort to go to a different town and make the game more of an event.
2. Wherever you choose, you’ll want to make sure that there is a big screen, so that you and your mates can see the action. You’ll also want to be able to hear the commentary and soak up the atmosphere of the ground too.
3. If you do choose a bar, or even if you just go to a friend’s house, you’ll want to make sure that there is some food for you to eat through the match. Although the first two England games are in the evening, the third group game is in the afternoon, so you might want something to eat after the game.
4. You’ll need to arrive in plenty of time for the match, so that you can watch the pre match build up, and get the team news. If you’re going to a bar, you’ll want to make sure that you get a seat, and can see the screen.
5. You might want enjoy a drink with your meal, but remember to drink soft drinks if you’re driving, and not to drink too much, even if you’re celebrating or commiserating.
6. You might want to watch the matches with your friends and have a quiet evening with the game and then go home. Alternatively you and your friends might want to go to a bar for a World Cup party, and make an evening of it after the game.
7. If you’re friends aren’t interested in football, or don’t want to go out, why not go to a popular bar and watch the match anyway? You’ll soon make friends and be able to enjoy the game.
8. Perhaps you and your friends will want to make a big effort, and wear the shirt, get your face painted or wear something else that shows your allegiance to your country. You’ll probably find that you’re not the only ones.
9. You local bar is likely to have a party atmosphere because of the World Cup, and there might be special offers. You’ll find football fans in there, watching the other matches, so you’re bound to be able to find someone to talk to, even if you’re friends can’t make it.
10. The England games are on Saturday, Friday and Wednesday, so you’ll only need to take the Wednesday afternoon off work if you want to watch the final England group game.
Now you know what you need to enjoy yourself, have you got everything organised to enjoy the 2010 World Cup?
